Smart 401(k) Investing

Opening a 401(k)

Get Started

Before you can enroll in your employer's 401(k) plan, you have to meet the plan's eligibility requirements. It's also a good idea to familiarize yourself with the contribution limits and matching benefits your employer might offer before you sign up.

Your employer may expect you to make decisions about your retirement savings plan in your first days on the job. Or you may have to track down the person who can sign you up when you're eligible to participate. Either way, you'll have to decide whether to be part of the plan.
